REINSW Awards for Excellence Auction competition sees first ever female finalist

Auctioneer Briannan Davis has proven she has what it takes in the traditionally male orientated world of auctioneering.

On Wednesday afternoon, Briannan was selected as a finalist in the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) Awards for Excellence Auction competition, becoming the first female to do so in the 15-year history of the Award.

Over the years, Cooley Auctions has had a strong presence in the REINSW Awards for Excellence Auction Final with Damien Cooley winning in 2008 and 2010 and Andrew Cooley earning the title in 2013.

This year, 11 auctioneers from across NSW vied for a spot in the final, each performing a mock auction of 2/2 Laurence Street Manly, for a crowd of industry professionals and REINSW board member judges. Also representing Cooley Auctions was auctioneer Jamie Thomas.

The competition tested the auctioneers skills with a pre-scripted bidding sequence. In addition, the competitors were posed questions to assess their knowledge of the Contract of Sale, which had been supplied to them 7 days prior.

Briannan stood out from the pack and was selected as a finalist along with Stuart Ritchie, Jesse Davidson & Clarence White. The four auctioneers progressed to the next stage of the competition, requiring them to call another auction, this time for a property in Spring St Bondi Junction.

As expected, each finalist performed extremely well however, the judges selected Mr Davidson & Mr White as the top two and they have now been entered in the Australasian Auctioneering Championships (AAC). The AAC will be held in Adelaide on 5-8 September 2017. This is the second year that the REINSW competition has followed this format and sent the top two NSW auctioneers to the AAC.
